Come & See. Go & Tell.

Bargil Pixner, a Benedictine monk of the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem, said that “five gospels record the life of Jesus.  Four you will find in books.  One you will find in the land they call ‘holy.’  Read the fifth gospel, and the world of the four will open to you.”

Between December 2014 and March 2015, I had the opportunity to travel through the Holy Land and visit some of the most famous Christian pilgrimage sites in all of the world in Israel, Palestine, and Jordan.  From walking alongside hundreds of other pilgrims to walking along on paths through the countryside and desert that ancient prophets may have also traversed, I have had the opportunity to see some amazing sights.  Seeing the places that I’ve read about for so many years has made the stories of the Bible come alive in a way that I never imagined they could.  And, as I came to the Holy Land and saw these places, it is now my responsibility to go and tell.  (And, in addition to tell, as I love photography so much…to show.)

So, over the course of the next year or so, I hope to share with you photos from Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and other places that I travel that connect with the lectionary text for the week.  (For those of you who aren’t familiar with the lectionary, you can read more here.)  It’s my hope that my photos can help me to show you the fifth gospel and share with you the incredible sights of the Holy Land.
